Facebook are bringing in a host of changes that will let you make your profile even more personal, they plan to introduce the ability to have video as well as a photo as your preferred ‘profile picture’ choice.
The social media site reckons that users are already doing so much with video content that it makes sense to let people see a clip of you as soon as they land on your profile.
You won’t obviously be able to have a feature-length Hollywood-worthy action movie. The videos will be short, looped clips – GIFS in everything but name.
The world has changed since we first introduced profiles in 2004. Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile.

And there’s more. Facebook will also start allowing users to overlay their profile pictures with images on certain days, similar to what they did with the rainbow flag campaign. Think football flags on match days. Pretty cool.
Profile pictures are not just static portraits. They represent what’s going in your life right now and what’s important to you, and we want to give people the tools to better express themselves in this way.

The new creative tools will be rolled out to selected users in the UK and US before a full roll out. In the meantime, you’ll soon start seeing mobile profiles with centred and noticeably larger pictures.
